UK Great British Nightmare - The Dovecote Bistro (Martins Bistro) - OPEN

Open or closed? OPEN

Episode Summary: The Chef Owner Mick was in trouble with secret credit cards and debts accrued by keeping the business going. He served Gordon a duck cooked with Orange Squash and a vaccum packed long life lamb shank which Gordon refused to eat as it was full of e numbers and preservatives. Mick and Gordon argued throughout, Mick and Mo argued, Mick and daughter Michelle argued.  Eventually Gordon talked Mick into using fresh local produce including fresh lamb shanks. He also took Mick out of the kitchen replacing him with Michelle.

What happened next: He revisited and things had slowly started to slip back to the Cash and Carry but Gordon arranged a local meeting to bring the locals together and to get a totally fresh menu back on.After what appeared to be a small blip when Gordon revisited, Mick hired a new chef to work in the kitchen and the restaurant is serving local produce once again. Reviews look good.

  2. The daughter's name is Michelle, not Danielle. I just watched the episode on BBC America. If she moved on, I hope she finds success in whatever she is doing now.

    1. Watched the episode a few days ago and I have to agree. This is one of the few times when I would actually have been pleased to see a business fold. He was so determined to do everything his way, no matter what, and lay the blame on everybody else, particularly his family, when he didn't get the results he obviously thought he deserved, that I would have considered it his just desserts (pun intended, LOL). Frankly, I still found it hard to believe he had turned over a new leaf at the end of the show.

And yes, the daughter is obviously very skilled. I hope she does well in whatever she does.

  7. After watching this programme, I would hate to think that other eating establishments serve up meals like this Bistro used to do. Unfortunately they probably do, shame on them.Where is our health inspectors??

  9. I was amazed that Mick had the gall to serve vacuum packed, no-fridge lamb shanks to Gordon Ramsay on tv after advertising all fresh food.

I felt so sorry for the wife and the daughter in this one, seemed like they were paying for all of Mick's mistakes and ego trips.

  10. I enjoy watching Gordon Ramsay work. He deals with people who are so arrogant. Gordon put Mick in his place. Gordon is the best cook on Earth!

  13. That dishonest, pig-headed father has no idea in the world what a gem of a family he's got. I loved how Danielle drew Ramsay out into conversation later. It's amazing that a world-class chef took the time to really talk to such a young woman about his life and past. I really hope she succeeds.

  14. Mick was perhaps one of the most unlikable chefs ever to appear on the show.
he's got a loving supportive family who are constantly paying for his inability to accept that he's not infallible.

  15. I agree....I seriously think Mick is in early stages of Alzheimers disease. Besides he is a pathological liar as is revealed by his opening credit card accounts without telling his wife or daughter. These ladies deserve better in life. I too hope that Michelle has much success. She is very talented and mentally grounded, mature, and quite strong.

  16. I am shocked this place is still open. Mick had to be the most dimwitted owners I have seen on the British show. What a lazy, dumb, lying idiot he was. Poor family indeed, unbelievable they stuck with him, because he had nothing to offer than lies, debts and stress. Clearly deserved better.
