UK Season 4 - Morgans - CLOSED

Open or closed? CLOSED
Location: Woolton, UK

Episode Summary: "Dotty" owner Sandy runs the restaurant with her two daughters and mouthy head chef Phil and diamond in the rough assistant chef Emma in the kitchen. (I would really like to know where she is now, any info much appreciated) Mashed potato with apricots in, Tesco bought ingredients and tantrums from Laura. Gordon reaches out to local female celebs and WAGs to relaunch auctioning antiques between courses.

What Happened Next: Gordon returns to the restaurant and the biggest change is in the kitchen. Phil is out and Emma has been promoted to Head Chef. She has a new dish on the menu, which impresses Gordon. Helen has stepped in and computerised the books, a big change from Sandy's "well it's all here" approach. In February 2007,  Sandy put Morgans up for sale for £99,000. Morgans was sold and became Oddfellows Restaurant in December 2007 but closed in 2010/11. Head Chef Phil went on to work at Blue Bar but was jailed for theft for stealing cheques from his new employers after leaving Morgans. After Oddfellows was closed, Caveau, a french restaurant opened in it's place. The restaurant has excellent reviews. Laura is seeking work as a model/actress and has had a bit part in Hollyoaks as a beautician. She came 4th in the Miss Merseyside beauty pageant.

    2. Considering how many reviews I've seen post-episode that begin "I thought I'd go see what it was like after seeing its KN episode..."

  2. We agree! My boyfriend and I watch Gordon Ramsay all the time and if we had the opportunity to eat at a restaurant that Ramsay tried to fix, we DEFINITELY would. Why would anyone hate Ramsay? I say this report is based on what that childish blonde "assistant manager" had to say.

  3. Helen was the better person - Laura was the psycho that lost it on the playground. I could imagine (if I stretch) local Brits thinking Ramsay is too big for his knickers and so might they be, but when push comes to shove Brits love their own and would support a family trying to make good. They were avoiding the weird mum and nutter sister more like.

  4. "There were a lot of people who didn't like Gordon so after the show they actively avoided our restaurant."

back in my country there's a saying: the man who cant dance blames the floor for being uneven.

  5. Laura was a child on the episode and kept walking away. Completely closed off from any constructive fucking criticism ;p When She was 3 hours late and couldn't find the reservation book, she blamed Gordon for it claiming that he wanted to make things go wrong for her.

It's no surprise at all that she would blame their failure on him.

  7. I'm watching this episode now and I have to concede that if anyone was to blame for running the restaurant into the ground post-Gordon, it'll be Laura. Stupid woman who would be better off becoming bimbo WAG.

    1. You're spot on with Laura. She's after fame (aspiraing actress - http://www.impactcasting.co.uk/FemaleCV.aspx?modelID=22) and didn't care one bit about the restaurant.

  8. Like him or loath him, Gordon knows his stuff. I know the show is edited etc and the production have a big say on what gets aired, but he left the place in better shape than it was.

The only two who had a clue were the girl in the kitchen and the sister Helen? That Laura and the mum would be better off going off and doing PR. They couldn't run front of house and couldn't take being told what to do.

Real pity it shut down, as some others have said if anything I'd make a point of going to a place Gordon had worked on, if for no other reason than to asses his abilities!!

  9. Laura and Sandy are the issues here, Laura is an immature prat who thinks because she has a degree she knows everything about everything. Sandy wants to be the boss but doesn't know her arsehole from her elbow,
Kelly was the only family member who knew her shit and is an asset and Emma should have been in charge from day one. Her food looked amazing.
Phil looked shady and i assumed he was on something as no one is that daft, i wonder how much he stole from Morgans...
All in all, Gordon was their saving grace, they literally had the support of millionaires but their own inadequacy ultimately cost them the business. We have a saying here in Australia "A good tradesman never blames his tools". Some people deserve to go out of business.

  10. When you think about it, the reason businesses like Morgan's were on KN in the first place were because they were failing. No shock so many are now closed. Chef Ramsay can only show them the way from his point of view, it's ultimately up to the owners and employees to fix it. Change is hard, it's not Chef Ramsay's fault at all.

  11. If Sandy wanted to open a restaurant, the first thing she should have done was hire a business manager. This way all of the pawns would have been put in place..."chef" Phil sould have never given the job as head chef, Emma was an excellent choice as chef.Sandy should have learned to expedite the orders (if she could be trainable) Laura, because of her status of "royalty" and full of shyte her pretty face should have been placed at the hostes table. Helen was the only one capable of running the business, unfortunately her mother Sandy waited too late. I believe Chef Ramsay dealt with these difficult women very appropriatedly. In his second visit the restaurant was booming, as Helen management skills along with the Emperor Ramsay's expertise proved the restaurant had a great potential for success. I am sure between Sandy and princes Laura's attitudes was the cause of the restaurant's closing. Emperor Ramsay brought this place back into the map. Do not blame Chef Ramsay's for their demise. I wish Helen all the luck in the world and you will have success as long as you keep far away from these witches. TO my Emperor Chef Ramsay, I LOVE YOU EVEN IF I'M FAR AWAY!,,,,,,USA

  12. Laura may have a degree in business, but not in logic, common sense and manners. She needs a good kick in the arse. Why would you hire a chef with no experience-especially if you have no experience in running a restaurant? Cuz you're stupid. And Sandy's dum as dirt. Food shopping at the local supermarket at 5pm? Really? And the "books" were a joke. Miss I Have a Business Degree should be doing the books, thus staying away from the restaurant. What a disaster. Ladies, you failed because you were not up to the task. Don't blame Chef Ramsey, who holds I don't know how many Michelin stars and knows how to be a successful restaurateur.

  13. I'm still baffled at the overwhelming amount of stupidity (from Sandy and Laura) that this episode demonstrated.

    Headless damn chickens.
That stupid mother washing the dishes and running groceries late in the afternoon... I was facepalming hard the whole time.

I hope that Laura learned something by watching her painful appearance in the show, but it seems that it's not the case, since she blamed Gordon for her failures (again).
Really, she got a business degree? Did she bought the examiners or something?

"A lot of people who didn't like Gordon actively avoided our restaurant"... what kind of excuse is that? Do they really believe in their own bullshits?
The food was proven to be amazing and the ambiance was top notch.

The awful truth is that those women just went back to their old ways, because there was no man to tell them what to do (thus, they took successes for granted).
    Girl power? Nope.

  14. I'd also really like to know what became of chef Emma after the closing; she had real potential and a great attitude and if she catches a few breaks she could really go far. I also feel bad for Helen, who seemed to have her act together but she herself wasn't enough to save the restaurant. Mom seemed clueless and other sister came off as a spoiled brat.

  19. Laura is nuts. These people ask Gordon to come and then seem shocked when he wants to make changes. Unreal.
